IGES Internship Programme for the first half of FY2008 (May-September)

IGES is accepting applications for first-term internships at its research projects with the aim of promoting understanding of its work by offering the opportunity for practical training through internships to capable people who wish to be active in fields related to the research of policies concerning environmental issues in the future.

(6) Kitakyushu Initiative for a Clean Environment (KI)
1. Qualifications:
In principle, applicants should be students at a Japanese or foreign graduate school.
2. Content of training:
The intern will research or make documents concerning the content of each research project under the instruction of the project manager or the training supervisor of the project, which he or she belongs to.
3. Language proficiency:
The intern should be proficient enough in English for the purposes of oral communication and writing of documents.
4. Term:
In principle, the term should be more than one month and less than three months between 1 May 2008 and 30 September, 2008. (Actual term is determined after the discussion between the intern and each project.)
5. Place of training:
CP Project, BF Project, FC Project, WMR Project and CDE Project

6. Conditions:

Five days per week in principle: 9:30-18:00
(2)
Holidays: Saturday, Sunday and national holidays
(3)
Accommodation:
-If the intern receives training at the IGES headquarters and cannot commute from his/her current residence, he/she will be able to use accommodations within the IGES headquarters’ building for free if there are any vacant rooms.
-If the intern receives training at the Kitakyushu Office and cannot commute from his/her current residence, he/she will able to use the accommodations specified by IGES for his/her daily commute. IGES will cover the room rent although utility charges, telephone charges and any other extra charges for additional services will be at the intern’s own expense.

Travel expenses:
(a) If the intern commutes from his/her residence in Japan to each IGES office, IGES will cover the travel expenses necessary for the intern’s daily commute according to the IGES regulations.
(b) If the intern receives training at the Kitakyushu Office and needs to use the accommodations specified by IGES for his/her daily commute, IGES will cover the travel expenses necessary for the intern’s daily commute between the facility and the office according to the IGES regulations.
(c) Travel expenses between the intern’s current residence and the accommodations the intern uses during his/her internship period will be at the intern’s own expense.

9. Selection Process:
Based on the application and contact with the candidates, we will decide whether to accept or not. (The number of interns we can accept is limited. Only possible candidates will be contacted by 31 March. Please note that we will not contact the applicants who have not been selected for the candidates.)
